The Macallan distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, a barley farmer and school teacher. Now owned by the Edrington Group.
It is the most sought after whisky for collectors, regularly setting records all round the world. Matured in a combination of both ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks, the 21 year old expression is described as “The Age of Maturity”.
Unfortunately now harder to find as it has become discontinued.
Tasting Notes
Colour – sunset on the Spey
Nose – scented hand-cream, sandalwood, pears in liquor.
Palate – sweet, lightly spicy and drying elegantly.
Finish – Medium length, with chewy spiced oak.
