Karuizawa 2000 Cask Strength 5th Release

£1,495.00

Mothballed in 2000 this is a very rare, sherry, single cask release from Karuizawa from 2017. Release No.5 of the Fugaku Sanjurokkei (Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji) series. Each label depicts a different image of the revered Japanese mountain.Karuizawa produced outstanding whiskies, many of which have received international acclaim. They have released almost 300 single casks which are becoming increasingly rarer and rarer as demand soars. This limited bottling consists of multi-vintage Cask Strength Karuizawa from the distillery’s final years of production.

A legend of the whisky world, the Karuizawa distillery was opened in 1955 in Miyota, Japan, rather near the active volcano Mount Asama. The distillery housed four small stills and imported Golden Promise barley from Scotland to create their whisky, which was then often aged in Sherry casks. Sadly, the distillery was mothballed in 2001, with their stocks of slowly trickling out to market, where the bottles have become quite the collector’s item for whisky enthusiasts.
