Macallan 1946 Select Reserve 52 Year Old
The Macallan 1946 select reserve 52 year old is a rare and luxurious peated malt whisky from the esteemed Macallan Distillery in Speyside. Described as a truly stunning example from whisky lovers worldwide, this Macallan was distilled in 1946 and matured for over half a century until bottling. Presented in a gorgeous wooden box under lock and key, ensuring this amazing investment is kept secure and away from prying eyes. The select reserve also comes complete with certificate of authenticity.
The year was 1946. The entire world was recuperating from World War II. The debilitating damage from the long lived conflict had physical, psychological and financial effects on both civilisation and industry. The whisky industry had fallen victim to distillery shut down, staffing issues and financial hardships and as a result of these, Macallan had difficulty sourcing coal, an important requirement in their whisky production.
If the select reserve could be described in one word it would be “different”. This is due to Macallan using peat as a result of war time era use of coal. Macallan had previously used peat when they began to officially produce whisky in 1824. But as coal became readily accessible during the late 19th century, they turned to it as a more efficient fuel. The differences of this Macallan era has meant that this particular whisky is classed as extremely rare, extremely collectable, and moderately expensive.
